So we've toyed with forum roleplay or online roleplay for many years. We tried minecraft and other things with a little bit of success and a whole lot of fun.

Now with the ability coming to spend XP and such for abilities without the need for a guardian, forum based roleplay worlds could get a lot more exciting. We finally have all the components to host ridiculously awesome online roleplaying games so maybe we take this in a whole other direction...

We could offer forum roleplay only worlds independent of the larp worlds. This would elevate the possible "crossing of roleplay streams" yet keep us all together in the same community?

What I'm thinking is taking Haloria and making it it's own entire world as the first playtest. We'd use the Myths & Legends Abilities BUT the characters would be built outside of the larp system and INSIDE the Forum System. So when a person makes a character, they can pick "Haloria Forum Character" or something and then the character builder would only show them those skills and costs based on that (much like we'd set up the following larp systems).

Now, only Haloria characters could post in said forums and the XP values for posting would be way more because now, that's the main way you're building a character. This would also help us test the new character builder system before it would ever go live in a larp.

Currencies - These can be different than the ones we have with Myths. Our tracking system can turn currencies on and off depending on character type so while in Larp, we don't want to allow characters trading outside of the games, in the forum worlds, we do because that's the only way to do it.

We have the ability to make world files, cities and so much more. BUT would this be something players would want??

I have done a lot of chat room and forum based RP over the years, and some of my most beloved stories have come from that particular venue of play. Forum play has a different feel from tabletop and larp, in that it has a different pace. That's both good and bad. A combat or a conversation that takes a few minutes to carry out in larp can take weeks to perform in a forum setting, just because the back and forth is more drawn out. But forum and chat room play allows for some really deep character development because you have the time to linger over certain nuances that you often don't in a more fast paced venue.

And with a forum RP, you could also integrate the chat room functions on the site, to make locations within the forum setting that people can play and interact within in real time. And then they could record transcripts from the chat logs and post them in the forums for posterity.

However, I would hate to see Haloria removed from the Myrium setting. As Larpcraft grows and the world of Myrium expands in lore and cultures and newly arising kingdoms, if feel like Haloria has an important niche. It's a place where players from colonies all around the world can come and interact, giving people an in game reason to share news and stories and gossip. If Haloria does become its own thing, I feel like Myrium will need something to replace it.

I understand your thoughts and ya, it could go either way.. the problem is with functionality. Right now the system is set up where coin and such can't be traded in a forum roleplay. Coupled with the fact that the in-game scrolls are the main target for post and pre-larp interactions, it almost doesn't seem to fit that Haloria is in Myrium.

With forum based roleplay you need to be able to exchange coin and such, with larp you can't because the action happens at the game. With forum based, we would want XP to to be much higher per post because that's how you build your character. With Larp, you don't get as much for posting stories because again, the main XP is coming from living the character.

This is where the major delay is. If you wanted to just roleplay out of character like Springfield does, you simply use the chapter community forums (because those are out of game). But with all the tools we have, it would be awesome to build a different world based on Myths & Legends for forum based roleplay and it would even interact with the tabletop version we want to build... I just don't think it would be wise to mix the larp lore with the forum based lore since the site tracks things differently depending on what we want to do.

I was thinking about this a bit yesterday evening, when I had an interesting idea. What if the Haloria setting was Myrium during a different age?

What if Haloria is set during one of the earlier ages? (Or it could be set in a future age for that matter.) Then you could still use the established races and historical lore, but also not have to worry about justifying characters interacting between the LARP and the Forums. However, the benefit of this would be that the Haloria forum RPG could be used to continue to add to the lore of Myrium and fill in some of the blanks of world events.

One of the nice things about tabletop and forum based RPGs is you don't have to worry about your budget. The limit is your imagination. So through the Haloria storylines we could actually see the Dragon-Giant Wars. We could experience the first clashes of the elves versus the orcs, or see the birth of the Draken. And then when the great empire of Haloria finally falls, as all empires must, we will have a richer, deeper world lore we can tap into through scrolls found in the World Library, and the island remains of once great Haloria.

So if we are wanting to RP in Haloria then we need to make a character just for Haloria correct?

Correct, because in Larp.. you can't transfer coin and you don't earn as much XP for posts. Haloria characters would be your ancestors to help build the world as well as your bloodline (if you wish).

So that would be an alt account? I've tried to follow the threads about player accounts and alt accounts but I'm having trouble understanding how that works.

Correct, It would be an Alt preferably of your main player account but if you don't have one of those it's ok. New accounts have to be made the old fashioned way and then linked later.

Just make another Character (With Email) and then you get the choice to select a System in your Edit Profile section - choose Haloria for it.

Ya, there's been a lot of things going on these past few days. I have to get a few more chapters up and running before I can get back to this.
