I was wondering what kind of cores are generally used in the shields used for larp. I've been wanting to make one, but I do not know what to use. The only tutorials I could find online were either made using pure foam or used wood as a core. I figured that either of these would be a bad choice for a shield and would not be allowed (though I could be wrong, I really do not know) So what is used as a core for shields?

well io can tell you what i used to make mine, i took an old tote lid that was not needed anymore, it gave it flexability with stability, and let me mount a hand grip on it. i put 2 layers of blue cmap foam map on the outside and one on the inside then ran another strip of foam around the edge to seal it all up, then plasti dipped painted and sealed it, avoid flex seal for the final coating, not sure what trips uses but i know Raliks shield is wonderful. if you do engraved details on the face avoid the roll on plasti dip, stick to the spray paint type, from what i have seen and heard you get to keep any details that way

    Wood Core = BIG nono...
Pure Foam IS fine... with a couple of extra layers you will actually find it pretty rigid yet still flexible.
I have found a layer of Corrugated Cardboard (Box Cardboard) to be the best Core though!
