Broken Thrones Changelog

Ok so lots happening here. We're well on our way to getting the first few chapters done. Talked with WUB WUB and Mirti Soolet along with sending updates to Keldor Ironfoot and Joshsohn to express intent to rebuild LarpCraft and the new system.

Mirti Soolet may be able to toss some ideas into the lore with their D&D stuff, that'd be helpful!

Working on a new site design that's more medivialish at the moment. That should show up here in the coming days.

Next paycheck, I'll work on the character developer app so you can pick race, class, and abilities without the need for an admin to process everything. And it will work with our web app here so android and iphone 13+ phones should have no problem installing larpcraft and showing character sheets that'll look sexy. In the past people didn't have printers for myths, now... I'd say 95% of people don't have a printer so it has to work on a screen of it just won't work. Those who are old school though, it'll print off nice too.

The first few chapters have been rewritten here - https://larpcraft.com/BrokenThronesRulebook the major differences besides completely re-writing all the wording and fixing most of the language errors, I've tossed up the following:

  • Death - can lay there for up to an hour vs minutes so you can revive in body without needing resurrections. We play in some big realms and extending this time can allow characters to heal without burning so many mats.
  • Death and Spirit Rags - After thousands of hours of myths games, wanted to try and address the weapon above the head thing. It's been hard for people in full kit to carry props, kit, and then use an arm to toss a weapon above their head for the long walk back to the graveyard or healer (we kept the death scrolls and such especially until we have the player base again). Once you die, you toss the red rag on your head making it easy to identify dead players when there's a lot happening on the battlefield.
  • Spirit Rags and Haunting - Once you get up and leave your body, wanted to try out a spirit mechanic where you place a white rag over your head or pack in white spooky cloth and some garb to turn you into a ghost. This makes the walk back to the graveyard more fun with some possible spirit haunting abilities, lore or quests.
  • Full Contact Option - You'll see that we're redoing how sashed play works from Myths. While that was a good idea, it was too risky for players who don't practice together enough. I tossed in some wording for special full-contact battles and harder-hitting rules when folks are wearing armor. It just doesn't pay to pretend that armor folks can feel the light hits, so the verbiage is in there to adjust your blows based on what your target is wearing.
  • Also added some wording about how to treat new players, how groups should have ways to train and recruit new players, and for all of us to self-admin and be aware of how to treat one another. I'd like to train people on how to be better players which will bring in more players... it's that simple.
Past that, you'll see we really didn't change much from myths. I'd like to reign in the abilities a tad but keep the same races, classes, heraldry, and most of those types of things. A blend of Myths 2015 but with the group stuff from 2017+ is the focus.

I've been working on new ideas for events, lore, podcasts, video rulebook, marketing material, and more. I think one of the reasons our game system worked better than others wasn't because of the rules, it was because of the dedicated players and how we brought people into the game. We'll be doing a lot of marketing again and helping people host games with Broken Thrones.
